Authors You Want to Read More From

Hi guys,

I’d like to welcome you to my first top 5 Wednesday post. Now, Top 5 Wednesday is a tag that I love following on Youtube. It was created by Lainey of GingerReadsLainey and is currently being moderated by Sam from ThoughtsonTomes.

This week’s topic for Top 5 Wednesday is Authors You Want to Read More From, now this can be authors you’ve just read one book from or a few books from. The only rule is that you have to want to read more by them.

So without further adieu, let’s get into it:

Author 1: Jennifer L. Armentrout

I know I’ve been talking about her a lot recently but I was only recently introduced to her work. I think it was JBookLover that made me really want to check her out due to her love of the Lux series. It was something that I’d heard mentioned a few times around youtube but it wasn’t until she mentioned it and talked about how much she loved and enjoyed it that I finally decided to give it a chance. Of course, I devoured the first two books within a day and a half and I immediately needed more. I have since gone on to read a portion of book three and all of White Hot Kiss which is the first book in the Dark Elements series and already, I just need more from her. I just need it, kay?

Author 2: Jaye Wells

Jaye Wells is an urban fantasy/paranormal romance author and to my knowledge, she has written three series in total. I read and loved her first series the Sabina Kane series. It centered around a half vampire half witch protagonist, her mage love interest and her demon companion who turns into a hairless cat whenever she tells him to. The book was quite honestly, hilarious and did not manage to get slow at all until around book 5 which was actually the last in the series. I haven’t managed to read any of her other series yet but I really, really want to.

Author 3: Lish McBride

Oh my God you guys, Lish McBride is amazing. Trust me, if you haven’t read a thing by her please go rectify that now because she is the wit queen. I’ve only read 1 1/2 books by her (Firebug and 1/2 of Pyromantic) but words cannot even begin to describe my love for these books. They’re just so darn clever and unique and feature a full cast of amazingly interesting characters. There’s romance, elemental magic, general badassery and so much more. Also, romance while definitely in this book is nowhere near the main theme of it. No, that’d be friendship and guys, do I even need to explain how great that is for me as a reader? Being able to read a book where romance takes a backseat to friendship/familial themes is just such a breath of fresh air. And I just need more of her writing. Honestly, I need it so bad I’m planning on picking up Hold Me Closer Necromancer just as soon as I’m done with Pyromantic.

Author 4: C.J. Redwine

I sort of feel like I’m cheating listing her because I haven’t actually read any of her work yet. I mean sure I’ve read the beautiful excerpts she posts on her facebook page and trust me, they are gorgeously written. I just haven’t managed to read any of her books yet but I need to. God, I need to.

Author 5: Fannie Flagg

I read Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe for the very first time when I was around 18 years old. I have since gone on to read it approximately 10 more times. If I had to pick a favorite book of all time Fried Green Tomatoes would be it. There’s just something about the town and all of its numerous quirky characters that is just soothing to me and while I haven’t read any of her other books I do want to.

Well that’s it guys, my very first top 5 wednesday post. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I liked writing it.

Throwback Thursday: Lumberjanes Vol. One Mini Review

Can we just talk about how awesome the first volume of Lumberjanes was? Can I please just squeal in delight for a few minutes? Because it was grand, like really, really grand.

God, I loved it so much.

I’m not even sure I can form enough coherent sentences to tell you why you need to read this comic but I am definitely going to try.

Lumberjanes is something that has been on my radar for quite awhile now, even before I read Nimona but it wasn’t until recently that I was actually able to read it through the prime reading little bonus thing that Amazon does (bless them). You see, every now and then amazon has graphic novels/comics available for amazon prime members to read for free- typically they’re the first volume or first couple of volumes in a series- anyways, that’s how I ended up reading this amazing thing (also, how I ended up reading the first volume of Scott Pilgrim which was golden) but anyways, I’m rambling- on to the review.

Lumberjanes is about girl power. It is full of cute and amazingly epic art and the characters- goodness, the characters are amazing humans who are super diverse and use names of famous people in place of swear words, or any other sort of exclamation (think holy cow batman except replace batman with Bessie Coleman). Did I mention that they also speak in pop culture references which is something I adore? Because they do and it is amazing.

Anyway, my husband wants to watch tv and I’m not sure I gave a really coherent review of this book anyway but guys, please for the love of kitten holy, read this- please.

You won’t even come close to regretting it.

Favorite SFF/Fantasy Covers

Hi, guys!

It’s time for another top 5 Wednesday post. I know, I know- I can’t believe it either.

Bring on the smexy covers, in no particular order of course.

16117921

Firebug by Lish McBride

I’m not sure what it is that attracts me to this cover the most. Maybe it’s the fire shooting out of her hands. Maybe it has something to do with how amazing the fire looks or how realistic the hand position is or how it sort of reminds me of fire shooting out of a dragon’s mouth. Whatever it is, I am here for it. Also, that tagline. Doesn’t it just pull you in? It definitely had that effect on me.

the immortal rules

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

This cover man. This cover gives me so much nostalgia it isn’t even funny. You see, I used to have these sexy vampire posters on my ceiling and well, to be completely honest with you part of the reason I wanted to read this book in the first place was because the cover reminded me so much of that period during my teenage years. It didn’t hurt that the book ended up being pretty darn great either.

Illuminae

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Ok so, my love of this book has everything to do with my love of space and just how friggen spacey it looks. I mean come on, it’s got stars all over it and the cloud effect? Gah. Also, I love the whole you shouldn’t be reading this vibe the book throws off. This cover makes me happy, as did the book.

carry on

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

This cover just makes me happy okay? I love it so much and literally fangirled so hard when I first saw it and sure, I own the hardcover edition of this book but that’s not going to stop me from buying this paperback version as soon as I get some money. It’s glorious and I need it so very badly.

fafdm

For a Few Demons More by Kim Harrison

There’s just something about a woman stalking towards a creepy how in a sexy dress and fuck me heels that I just cannot get enough of.

So there’s that- 5 of my favorite science fiction and fantasy covers. I’m sure I have more but these were quite honestly the ones that came to my head the fastest so this list may change fairly quickly, especially as I read more books.

Books as Event Themes

Hello you saucy people you,

At first, I was a bit confused by the topic chosen for this week’s Top 5 Wednesday post. I was also really, really, unsure that I would be able to come up with five books that would make good event/party themes because I’m just not the party throwing or party going sort of gal but once I sat down to really think about it I realized that I just might have five books in mind.

So without further ado let’s get on with it,

  1. Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake.

three dark crowns

Can you imagine it? An event centered around the poisoner parties? I mean that aesthetic. It is officially goals. Of course, I’m just talking about the ambiance, lighting, and overall mood of the event, not necessarily the death-inducing food since we’re not exactly blessed with an immunity to dangerous and life threatening poisons. But seriously, that dark dinner vibe with the banquet style layout and the all black clothing/decor and do I even need to mention the snakes? Warms my little Slytherpuff heart.

2. Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Illuminae

Now hear me out, an Illuminae themed laser tag party. Can you imagine? We could have opposing sides, someone playing the role of the super crazy A.I., and maybe even like a room where there’s like a bounce house type vibe. I’d say anti-gravity chamber but come on guys, the likelihood of that ever happening is pretty darn slim but still, a space-themed laser battle? I’m in and it doesn’t even exist.

3. I Hate Fairyland by Skottie Young

ihfl

Yes, I am aware that this is a comic but honestly, I’ve just always wanted to throw a party with bright whimsical colors where everyone has to dress in a sort of fairyland aesthetic. It’s just pleasing to me and while I wouldn’t want the death, destruction or the potential bar fight I would be lying if I said that my friends and I didn’t swear like the characters in this book do because- we do. See? I’m not that ashamed to admit it.

4. Firebug by Lish McBride

16117921

Now, my reason behind this is simple. I want to go to the club/restaurant that serves as the headquarters for the gang of miscreants that live in this story. Every floor of it just sounds so friggin cool and wonderful (okay, maybe not the bottom floor of doom but that gets turned into a pretty decent office/operations setting in the second book, Pyromantic). Who wouldn’t want to throw an event where things are heaven and hell themed?

5. The Selection by Kiera Cass

the selection

Yes, I am fully aware that this is on a lot of people’s lists but hey, who doesn’t want an excuse to eat like a potential future princess and wear a gorgeous ass ball gown? I do.

Well, there you have it, my top 5 book inspired event themes.

Honorable mention goes to the comic book series Scott Pilgrim because that whole series and movie are everything to me. I mean seriously, a video game themed party and not the typical Pacman stuff? Who wouldn’t be in favor of that? And besides, it’d give me an excuse to rock some pink hair.

Throwback Thursday: The New Disney Princess Book Tag!

Hey guys,

Sorry, I haven’t been around a lot this month, school has been a huge pain but I have a tag for you guys!

I was tagged by the lovely JessicaMarie493 to do this tag and am super excited to jump right into it. But first, the rules:

  • Mention where you saw the tag/thank whoever tagged you
  • Tag me and Mandy with our posts so we can check out the wonderful Princess fun throughout the blog world (Mandy’s link & Jessica’s link)
  • Play a game of tag at the end!

snow white

Snow White

This Book (like the Movie) Started It All
Favorite Debut Book From an Author

Oh goodness! I feel like I’m going to have to give this one to Harry Potter because it was such a magical debut novel and honestly if it weren’t for that and the Artemis Fowl series (and LoTR admittedly) I wouldn’t be anywhere close to being the reader I am today.

Cinderella

Cinderella

A Diamond in the Rough
Just Like Cinderella, You Either Didn’t Expect Much Out of This Character in the Beginning But they Turned Out to Be a Total Gem

That’d go to Julius Root from the Artemis Fowl series. At first he seemed to be this sort of antagonistical boss type character who just orders one of our protagonists around but in the end, he sort of grew on me quite a bit and I kind of fell in love with the old guy. Also, in the Opal Deception- I cried real tears during his moment. Real tears.

aurora

Aurora

Sleeping Beauty
A Book That Makes You Sleepy or Just Could Not Hold Your Attention

God, can this sort of go to every book I’ve been reading lately? I’m honestly not sure what’s wrong with me but I’ve been in the worst kind of slump lately.

ariel

Ariel

Under the Sea
A Book With a Water/Ocean Setting

I’m going to go with a classic here and say Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier and good God did it give me the creeps when I read it in high school. Not since reading Jane Eyre has a story of the other woman kept me up at night and not for like scary reasons either but just the bizarre-ness of it all.

belle.png

Belle

Beauty and the Books
Name a Book With the Best Bookworm/Book Lover

I’m for sure going to have to go with Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout on this one tied closely with Firebug by Lish McBride. I mean, one runs a book blog and the other runs a bookstore. What screams book lover more than that?

Jasmie

Jasmine

The Thief and the Princess
Name Book with an Unlikely Love Story (Either in Terms of Romance or a Book You Didn’t Expect to Love So Much)

I did not expect to love Carry On by Rainbow Rowell as much as I did. I also did not expect to ship Simon and Baz as hard as I did/do. I’ve even gone so far as to put sticker quotes on my bookshelf of some of the things they’ve said to each other and honestly, I think about that book/them all the time. Also, I need that paperback super bad.

pocahontas

Pocahontas

The Real Life Princess
Name a Book that is Based on a Real Life Person You Want to Read/Have Read

I used to be a huge fan of the Royal Diaries series. Princesses were my thing as a kid. Another book I would recommend would be The Heretic Queen by Michelle Moran. It’s based on Nefertari, niece to Nefertiti who later becomes a Queen in her own right when she marries Ramesses the Great. I loved it.

mulan.png

Mulan

The Princess that Saved Her Country
Name the Fiercest Heroine You Know

Ava from Firebug and Pyromantic by Lish McBride is a total badass who protects her own. ‘Nough said. Seriously though, I love and admire her so much and if you haven’t read Firebug yet, you need to.

Tiana.png

Tiana

The Princess With The Coolest And Most Diverse Crew
Name a diverse book whether it is a diverse set of characters (like Tiana’s group of Naveen, Louis, Ray, and more) or just diverse in general

There are two books that come to mind that are very diverse in their own ways. The first is If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo a book that has not only stuck with me but that had also opened up a whole new world for me and really just made me think. The other book which was told in a way that I wasn’t quite used to and invoked beautiful images in my mind was A Time to Dance by Padma Venkatraman. Both books were #OWNVOICES as well.

rapunzel

Rapunzel

Let Your Longggggg Hair Down
Name the Longest Book You’ve Ever Read

I’m cheating slightly because I haven’t finished it yet but I have read over 700 pages of it so I feel like it counts. That book is Game of Thrones, a book which I feel is sort of long for no reason at times. Swear it’s going to take me years to finish it and I’ve only got a little over 100 pages left.

merida

Merida

I Determine My Own Fate
A Book Where There is No Love Story/Interest or Isn’t Needed

Sometimes I wish Harry Potter didn’t have a love story. Honestly, there are times that I feel like Harry Potter didn’t really have a love story. I mean, it all sort of came out of nowhere and outside of Ron/Hermione felt a bit rushed. I also hear that This Savage Song doesn’t have a love story and I find that very intriguing.

anna and elsa

Anna/Elsa

Frozen Hearts
A Book in a Winter/Cold Setting

I always imagined that it was cold in the Grisha Trilogy though I can’t remember if it actually was or not.

moana.png

How Far I’ll Go
A Character That Goes on a Journey

Allison from the Immortal Rules goes on a pretty long journey in the first book. Penryn from Penryn and the End of Days series is another character that goes on a journey. Both are very good reads and also happen to be series that I haven’t finished yet. Might need to remedy that soon.

I don’t really know enough bloggers to tag anyone specific just yet but if you want to do this consider yourself tagged.

Throwback Thursday: The Anything But Books Tag

Now, this is a tag that I’ve seen swirling around YouTube for quite some time and I’ve always wanted to do it and since I’m in a reading slump I figured now might be a good time to fulfill that want.

1. Name a cartoon that you love.
CatDog is a cartoon I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. It was so weird and awesome and I just loved Dog so much.
2. What is your favorite song right now?
What Do I Know? by Ed Sheeran. That song is ten levels of amazing you guys.
3. What could you do for hours that isn’t reading?
Listening to music. I listen to music whenever I’m not reading. It’s on when I do the dishes, when I wash laundry, and when I sit around and do nothing. It’s never on when I read though.
4. What is something you love to do that your followers would be surprised by?
I adore the Hamilton the Musical Soundtrack. I also love Dirty Dancing and Clueless. Hamilton is just a blessing to the world and Clueless and Dirty Dancing are such genius teen movies you guys. I love them so much. Oh and I’m obsessed with Repo! the Genetic Opera. One time I watched it three days in a row. If that’s not obsession I’m not sure what it. I also really love making cheesecake.
5. What is your favorite unnecessarily specific thing to learn about?
I used to be really obsessed with the Tudor Monarchy. Wanted to learn everything about them that I could.
6. What is something unusual that you know how to do?
Is it weird that the only thing I can think of is how I’m double jointed in my shoulders and can move them so that there’s a dimple in my arm? Because that’s really all I can think about.
7. Name something you made in the last year and show us if you can.
I made this cake. Early anniversary present for me and the loserface.
IMG_20170519_173037_711
8. What is your most recent personal project?
I started planning out a story a few months ago and really want to be able to get back to working on it one of these days. I also started this blog very recently and consider it a personal project of sorts.
9. Tell us something that you think about often?
Tattoos. Cupcakes. Glitter.
10. Give us something that is your favorite.
The movie Steel Magnolias. If I had to pick a favorite movie ever it’d be that one.
11. Say the first thing that pops into your head.

Throwback Thursday: Book Blogger Confessions Tag

1. Which book – most recently – did you not finish?
Oh Boy, I could mention several but the most recent would be Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake. It’s a reread and a part of me thinks it’s why I’ve put it down and haven’t felt the urge to pick it up again.
2. Which book is your guilty pleasure?
Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout was a huge guilty pleasure of mine. I also have a thing for mail order bride short stories which is really weird but totally true. There’s something about the concept of a mail order bride and the whole happily ever after in a short time that’s addictive to me. I could finish three of them in a night.
3. Which book do you love to hate?
The second book in that one Jennifer L. Armentrout series. I can’t think of the name of it but the first book was White Hot Kiss. To be super honest with you I’ve sort of burned that second book out of my mind and really just want to pretend I never read it in the first place. That first book though was amazing and to be totally honest with you I really enjoyed complaining about how horrible that second book was. Still do from time to time.
4. Which book would you throw into the sea?
My Lady Jane when I was reading it. I did not enjoy it nearly as much as I thought I would.
5. Which book have you read the most?
The first four books in the Artemis Fowl series tied with the second and third books in the Harry Potter series.
6. Which book would you hate to receive as a present?
I got Lord of the Flies for Christmas once and staring at it on my bookshelf gives me wicked flashbacks. Poor, poor Piggy.
Okay, I know that wasn’t really an answer to the question but I can’t 100% think of a book I would hate to receive as a gift.
7. Which book could you not live without?
The entire Artemis Fowl series tied with the Lord of the Rings trilogy. They both meant so much to me growing up and helped me get through a lot of traumatic situations/issues.
8. Which book made you the angriest?
That one Jennifer L. Armentrout book that I refuse to name or think about.
9. Which book made you cry the most?
That’d have to be a tie between Illuminae and the first time I read Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.
10. Which book cover do you hate the most?
I really can’t think of one right now.

Throwback Thursday: Captive Prince Series Review

You guys!!!!

I finally finished the Captive Prince trilogy!

It was a long time coming but we’re here now (hehe get it?)

And boy what a ride it was.

For those of you who don’t know the Captive Prince series is about a Prince, Damianos of Akielos, Damen for short who gets taken prisoner by his brother and sent as a slave to the Prince of Vere, who is blonde bombshell Laurent. It details their lives together as they are thrust into a pretty epic plot and are forced to fight for their lives quite a few times. Now, I’m sorry for the really crappy synopsis but this is a series where you can’t say too much without giving away integral parts of the plot away but I will say that-

-The Series is Set in A Homo-Normative society.

-Damen Killed Laurent’s Brother

-The Series is Also Set in a Slave Normative Society

-It Has a Host of Amazing Side and Minor Characters (Jord is a personal fave)

-One of the Main Antagonists Has a Child Sex Slave (I feel like this spoiler is necessary as it can be triggering)

This series is beautiful in a lot of ways. It is also very short and due to that fact, I feel like it is practically impossible to review each book on its own. It is a directly ongoing story with the start of one book occurring directly after the events of the other and it is definitely a romance- but it’s also more than that. The Captive Prince trilogy to me is a series that takes the hate to love trope and gives it new life. It shows that two people can be very much alike despite coming from different backgrounds and that it is always possible to find common ground no matter what obstacles may be in the way. It also deals with consent and when things occur without consent, they are done tastefully, in a way that makes you feel empathic without feeling too cringey. Also, the sex scenes are very well written (not super important but I’ve dealt with really badly written sex scenes that have almost ruined books for me and coming from that, this was sort of nice).

Now that I’ve given my horrible spoiler-free review of the Captive Prince trilogy I want to talk about some of my favorite characters, unlikely ships, moments and quotes from the series.

Jord- He is one of Laurent’s most loyal guards if not the most loyal. He is a bit rough around the edges at first but inside he’s rather soft, squishy and fatherly. For real, if he wants to be my dad he’s got the job. I love how protective he is over Laurent despite how cold Laurent can be. I also loved seeing Jord in love even though it didn’t end in the best way.

Nikandros- He’s sort of Damen’s Jord in a way except I think he secretly had a thing for Damen. He’s protective, loyal, badass and kinda funny at times and while he’s only really a character in the last book, I still love him.

Speaking of Jord and Nikandros, those two are my unlikely ship. They remind me of people in a buddy cop type show or a show about two best friends except you end up sort of shipping them despite the fact that you probably aren’t supposed to. I can’t really explain the reason I want them together outside of the fact that I honestly think they are insanely alike and I feel like they’d be able to balance each other out at the same time.

“I lack,” said Laurent, “the easy mannerisms that are usually shared with,” you could see him pushing the words out, “a lover.”
“You lack the easy mannerisms that are usually shared with anyone,” said Damen.”
“Never had he wanted something this badly, and held it in his hands knowing that tomorrow it would be gone, traded for the high cliffs of Ios, and the uncertain future across the border, the chance to stand before his brother, to ask him for all the answers that no longer seemed important. A kingdom, or this.”
“Damen now knew the precise number of arrows Laurent needed to have trained on him in order to shut him up. It was six.”
“I think if I gave you my heart, you would treat it tenderly.”
“You’ve spent a morning with him and you’re warning me off. Just wait,’ said Damen, ‘until ‘Not exactly,’ said Damen.” you’ve spent a full day with him.’
‘You mean that he improves with time?’
‘Not exactly,’ said Damen.”
“There was a man I was supposed to meet. He’s got all these ideas about honour and fair play, and he tries to keep me from doing the wrong thing. But he’s not here right now. Unfortunately for you.”

Top 5 Wednesday: Books for Your Hogwarts House

Hi guys and welcome to another top 5 wednesday.

Top 5 Wednesday is a Goodreads group created by Gingerreadslainey that is currently hosted by Samantha of ThoughtsOnTomes. The topic for this week is one that made me think quite a bit as I consider myself to be a Hogwarts hybrid, a slytherpuff if you will. Yes, I am a pretty even mix between a Slytherin and a Hufflepuff and if you ask me that’s pretty awesome because come on cunning and loyalty? That’s pretty cool.

Anyways it took some time for me to figure out which books would adequately represent my Hogwarts house and while I’m not entirely sure whether I’m doing a good job by listing these books or not, I still feel like they work fairly well so let’s get down to it:

Image result for nancy drew books

5. the Nancy Drew series. Yes, I am aware of how strange it is to mention this series. I mean, we’re going back old school here but when it comes right down to it the central characters were nothing if not loyal to each other. Nancy and her friends were there for each other almost always throughout the story and it took a whole lot of cunning to solve those mysteries, especially the ones where dangerous criminals were considered which let’s face it was almost always.

Image result for anna dressed in blood

4. The Anna Dressed in Blood series. Even though I’ve only read the first book in this series I don’t think I have to tell you how much cunning it takes to hunt ghosts for a living. You think the Scooby Doo gang set out with no clue what to do? Ok well, a little over half of them didn’t even though Scooby and Shaggy themselves seemed like they had no clue at all. The same thing can be said for Cas who shows a whole lot of cunning and later even some surprising loyalty throughout the book.

Image result for firebug lish mcbride

3. Don’t ask me why but I’ve always pictured Hufflepuff house as this huge friendly family and while the characters in Firebug aren’t the friendliest people all the time they are family. Trust me, they’re super steadfastly loyal to each other and would protect each other until the end- and the main character feels like she’d be a Slytherin to me.

Image result for dead witch walking

2. I picked the Hollows series because while the main character sometimes feels like she’d be a Gryffindor the book houses one of my favorite would be Hufflepuff characters right along with one of my favorite would be Slytherins and they all live in a house together which I feel like is something Hogwarts could really learn from. Screw, house only common rooms do the co-house thing.

Image result for artemis fowl

  1. My number one pick is the Artemis Fowl series because the main character is a cunning as balls criminal mastermind and while I think I’d consider him more of a Slytherclaw, the whole book series is about learning what loyalty and friendship are and honestly you guys, to me those are two of the things that are super fundamental to what being a Hufflepuff is about.

Throwback Thursday: Bookish Facts about Me

25 Bookish Facts About Me

Hello guys and welcome to the 25 bookish facts about me tag. Is this a tag? I’m not sure, I’ve just seen it floating around youtube a whole lot and figured why not do it for myself?

Now let’s get to some facts!

  1. I start more books than I finish.  Now, this is a fairly new occurrence. Actually, no it’s not, who am I even kidding? I’m a book starter. I’ll start and get into around 10 or so books at once and then either slowly finish all of them or finish the ones I’m interested in and then leave the others lying about unfinished due to boredom, forgetfulness or some other reason.

shrug-house

2. I have commitment issues when it comes to books. This also applies to television shows but mostly applies to book series that I feel invested in but for some reason just can’t seem to commit to for the life of me. For example, I started reading the Grisha trilogy a couple of years ago and I really enjoyed the first book. Went a few months thinking about but generally avoiding the second book until I had a long wait at a dentist appointment and figured why not? So I finished it then, in a matter of hours because I wasn’t distracted by kids or life or whatever and obviously I enjoyed that book too. But have I started the third book in the series? Nope.

3. I am obsessed with bookmarks. Who isn’t though? They’re these adorable/beautiful things designed to go in your books and nothing else. I love them- I just don’t use them all nearly as much as I should.

4. Audiobooks. I just can’t seem to get into them. Now I don’t know if it’s me or audiobooks in general but I just have no desire to read them. They’re ok and mega convenient at times but I either feel like I have no time for them or would just rather read the e-book or physical copy.

5. E-books help me be lazy. I think this is something that might be true for a lot of people but I just find e-books so much easier to read than a physical book. With two kids it can be hard to find time to hold this sometimes hulking book and not have it end up damaged in some way, shape or form. My kids can’t damage my e-books because- we’ll they could but thankfully they haven’t seemed to find a way just yet.

6. I used to dog-ear books. This is a thing that I cannot do anymore but I did use to do it quite often. I didn’t have a lot of bookmarks back in the day and didn’t have the respect for the pristine condition of books that I do now.

7. I hate eating while reading. Just can’t do it. Food while reading is a big no-no for me.

8. However, I do love drinking tea while reading. Tea is my lifeblood. It’s this calming soothing thing that you can take almost anywhere and sometimes it just emphasizes the reading experience. Tea is life.

tumblr_o8mapwlDi31rlpicfo1_500

9. Love triangles tend to bother me. Now I won’t quit the book if there is a love triangle but for the most part, they annoy me. I just don’t find them all that necessary in my reading, especially when it is insanely obvious who the main character is going to choose. I also hate feeling bad for the other guy.

10. Badly written sex scenes do not break a book for me. If the story is good outside of the sex scenes then I simply skim past them to the rest of the story. Now, if the main character seems to be having sex every three pages, that tends to be when I quit.

11. YA fantasy tends to be my go-to genre. I don’t know what it is about YA fantasy that draws me in but it’s usually the first thing I go for. Could be the fact that the stories tend to be nothing at all similar to how my life is or was or it could just be that I loved LOTR as a kid.

12. I am not all that into adult fantasy or sci-fi. I do want to be though. I just find it a bit harder to find these sort of books on my own and even when I do, I’m not all that sure where to start. (Am totally open to suggestions on any btw.)

13. I wrote a book when I was 6 or 7. It was a children’s book about two kids who buy this lonely blue dog. It was illustrated and everything. My aunt thought it was good and that I should publish it but I have no idea where it could be anymore. For shame.

14. While I haven’t read much adult fantasy or sci-fi I used to mainly read paranormal romance. Now don’t ask me why I read that for the most part because I honestly couldn’t tell you but it was my go-to for awhile there. My sister-in-law introduced me to it while we were at the library one day and I found two series that sounded interesting, ended up loving them and the rest is history. I did stop reading them for a bit though and am currently trying to get back into it since my favorite half-priced bookstore has a whole lot of them in stock.

15. I own all of the Royal Diaries book series. Anyone remember those? They were these awesome middle-grade fiction stories told from the perspective of princesses (some well known and some not so much) that were told in a diary format? I loved them so much as a kid and still do tbh.

16. In the vein of the Royal Diaries fact- I also collect both the Dear America and Dear Canada book series. Dear America books aren’t all that hard to find and a lot of the time they end up being about 4 dollars total on Amazon. The Dear Canada books are a bit harder for me to get my hands on at times because they weren’t actually sold here but I have a deep love and respect for both series as they helped me so much when it came to discovering my passion for history, getting alternative perspectives, and tbh they helped make test-taking a whole lot easier by putting what I needed to be studying about in a way that I wanted to read.

17. Artemis Fowl is my favorite book series of all time. I love that series so much. It was there for me whenever I was going through something difficult, had a main character who made an exponential amount of growth throughout the series and was just a quick fun read with an amazing cast of characters. I’ve also re-read it numerous times.

18. I have never re-read the Harry Potter series. And I have no desire to. I know, I know- I’m horrible for saying that. Doesn’t make it any less true though.

19. I hate reading over-hyped books. I just can’t get past the fact that they are overhyped. If I hear about a book that everyone is reading and I wasn’t already reading it in the first place then I tend to avoid reading that book like the plague which is exactly why it took me so long to start reading the Twilight series.

20. I prefer vampires over werewolves. This is mostly when reading books. I think werewolves are awesome in shows, movies and even in books but I tend to lean more towards books about vampires than I do about werewolves or any kind of shifters. Witches will always be better though.

21. I don’t like watching or reading reviews for books before I read them. Even if the reviews happen to be spoiler free I tend to avoid the review until after I’ve finished the book because a bad review can really throw a person off a book, me especially.

22. I am just now starting to love trashy YA fiction. They’re quick, cute and super addicting. What’s not to love? Honestly, I’ve managed to finish a lot of the trashy YA books I start within a couple of days or less. Except for The Selection series. I’m looking at you, America Singer.

23. I don’t get the hype on J.K. Rowling. I. Just. Don’t. Get. It. I mean why is she known as God-Queen Rowling? Sure, she wrote the Harry Potter series but there are a lot of things wrong with them. I mean, name an LGBT character in that series outside of Dumbledore that J.K. has actually declared as LGBT. I’m waiting.

24. Lord of the Rings will always have a soft spot in my heart. It got me through a really difficult part of my life and for that, I will always love it. Don’t care what anyone says about it.

25. I might be out of my reading slump. Yep, you heard that right. I finished a book today, which I will try to review later.

Well, that’s it for the 25 bookish facts about me tag. I hope you enjoyed them.

Until next time,

Amber
